AMHERST — The University of Massachusetts Amherst is advising the public that road closures will be in effect because of student move-out and commencement activities Wednesday through Sunday.

The university expects heavy traffic during this time and advises visitors to arrive as early as possible.
Move-out will take place Wednesday and Thursday, when traffic patterns will change to accommodate students and their helpers.
Details regarding parking and traffic pattern adjustments and directions for move-out can be found on the UMass Spring Move-Out web page.
On Friday, McGuirk Stadium shuttles will run from 2 p.m. until one hour after the conclusion of the undergraduate commencement ceremony. Campus commencement shuttles run all weekend: on Friday and Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There are several road closures planned. University Drive between Massachusetts Avenue and Amity Street will be closed on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m., on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fearing Street west of Sunset Avenue will be closed Friday starting at 1:30 p.m., and all-day Saturday and Sunday. Sunset Avenue, between Massachusetts Avenue and Fearing Street, will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Other closures scattered throughout the weekend include Governors Drive, westbound; North Pleasant Street, between Eastman Lane and Massachusetts Avenue; Plainville Road at North Maple Street; Rocky Hill Road east of North Maple Street; parts of Commonwealth Avenue; and parts of Route 116.
Visitors wanting to hop on a shuttle to the events should follow UMass Police Department-directed traffic routes to designated parking areas and look for nearby UMass shuttle signs and staff, the university said in a statement.
